The learning curve between dreaming of life on the water and boat ownership is a steep one. “Fixing your boat in exotic places around the world” didn’t become a catch phrase amongst sailors for no reason.
TALOS Marine hopes to fill the knowledge gap for those eager to make the leap and become a more hands-on master of their vessel.
In today’s social media-laden culture, it’s easy to stay inspired and thirst for adventure. But what if you don’t have a technical or mechanical background? Or what if you do, but not about each system aboard and want to jump ahead to simply enjoying your version of Paradise?
This is where we can help.
We aim to empower owners with the ability to understand the systems they have aboard, troubleshoot any equipment issues that arise and execute repairs. If a Professional
does need to be called, we want you armed with enough knowledge about your systems to give their assessment of the issue a good Sniff Test so that you don’t waste your time or money.
Already a pro with your diesels, but your black water system and plumbing is a mystery? No problem! We create a bespoke learning experience tailored to what each owner selects as areas of focus.
Please note, this is a Hands-On program. You will be getting your hands dirty. Be mindful of this when you sign up and be ready to roll up your sleeves and have some fun!
As active participants of the cruiser community, we at TALOS Marine look forward to seeing you out there and helping you get to know and enjoy your vessel on a more in-depth level.
I had the pleasure of engaging Rob to help me with several projects on our 50’ aluminum sailboat, from electrical, to plumbing and rigging. Rob’s thorough knowledge of all marine systems shines through all his work. He was very efficient regardless of what he tackles, taking the time to explain the procedures and necessary steps involved, making sure that I was involved every step of the way. This produced results that inspired confidence both in the work and in myself as a boat owner, which is so important to me.
It is truly impressive to come across someone who knows so much and can offer valuable advice. I would go out of my way to have Rob work on my boat and I am looking forward to another opportunity.

We first met Rob when we were looking for a captain to assist us in making the offshore passage between Middle River, MD to Palm Coast, FL in October of 2024. This was our first offshore passage after purchasing our Privilege 435 catamaran. Even before our trip started, we were impressed by Rob’s organization, attention to safety details, and general pre-passage knowledge. Once we were underway, what became most apparent was not just Rob’s knowledge and experience but his ability to communicate effectively and calmly to all crew members. Rob has a passion for teaching others about sailing and he possesses the personality type that is able to accommodate all learners. He was in tune to passengers’ skill and comfortability levels and was able to meet us where we were as individuals. Sometimes as a female sailor, it is easy to feel as if you’re tagging along with “the boys club”, but with Rob that is a non-issue. He sees all crew as critical members and makes sure that translates to the general vibe of the boat. Furthermore, we fully trust Rob to handle any situation. His ability to remain absolutely calm and to think through decisions during critical moments not only got us through our passage, but has helped us to build confidence and the knowledge base we need to be safe out on the water. We look forward to working with Rob in the future and can not recommend him enough.

All boats are good boats: fiberglass, aluminum, wood, steel/ monohull, catamaran, powerboat. Whatever you've got, we're here to help you out.
Before the work of any project begins, a proper inventory of needed tools and potential spares or replacement parts is taken as is the ease and convenience of procuring what could be needed. Troubleshooting diagnostics, instead of blindly diving in, can save time, money and complications.
This is a Hands-On program that will get your hands dirty. Be mindful of this when you sign up for a module or Half-day course. While Rob does have a day rate, we encourage you to consider the programs we offer as they truly increase your confidence.
We begin our work after breakfast and wrap things up around sun-downers. There can be a lot to information to take in and time to rest and recharge is important. Depending on the modules or half-days you've selected, the days can vary, but are always full.
Note: While doing one project, it inevitably leads to chats about other projects.
We encourage you to have a notebook at the ready to jot down off-topic questions so that Rob can focus on the projects at hand as well as the curriculum that brought us to you.
Each boat (and its owner) has a unique sets of needs and desired outcomes.
TALOS employs a competitive day rate that includes 3 of the modules, typically spread over the course of a week.
An in-depth call with Rob will be scheduled (probably more than one) to develop a plan that is both realistic in time and funds. This will help better gauge the cost of the designed program.
Rob offers a dyneema splicing clinic, free of charge, time-permitting.
We love our customers and try and respond well within 24 hours to any inquires
